ALEXANDRABACH Olfactory Gallery

At the heart of the Haute Parfumerie Maison, the ALEXANDRABACH Olfactory Gallery is a meeting place between contemporary art and the art of perfume.

Until March 2028, the gallery presents the exhibition “30 Years of Symbolism through Olfaction,” devoted to the work of Alexandra Bachand, visual artist, perfumer, and founder of the Maison. The artist presents a selection of recent and earlier paintings, along with sculptural installations that engage in dialogue with perfume and its symbolism, bringing form, colour, and texture to life through synesthesia.

A powerful and sensitive resonance between visible and invisible materials, in pursuit of a multisensory poetry.

The gallery offers privileged access to a little-known creative discipline, the olfactory arts, in which perfume becomes a major artistic medium and a primary vehicle for artistic storytelling.

Originally from the Eastern Townships, Alexandra is a Canadian artist. She studied graphic design and multimedia at ICARI in Montreal and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from Bishop’s University in Lennoxville.

Since 2015, following a diploma in perfumery in Europe, she has developed a distinctive artistic approach rooted in the synesthetic relationship between colour and scent, bringing together visual and olfactory arts. She composes and creates entirely by hand all the perfumes that emanate from her three-dimensional visual artworks.

Bachand's practice is grounded in a philosophy of complete authorship, through which she claims full creative autonomy in the conception and realization of the works she presents to the public.

Inspired by the concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk — the total work of art —, her practice is based on the idea that every component of an artwork, whether visual, material, spatial, or olfactory, belongs to a single creative gesture. Perfume is therefore not added to the artwork: it is an integral material in its own right, conceived and composed as an extension of the artistic intention and, above all, through the artist's own hands.

“My work takes shape through a narrative that unfolds invisibly before finding its visual form. I compose the fragrance, which then becomes seamlessly integrated into the physical material. Scent occupies an embodied place; it acts like a buried memory, a presence embedded within the material work without seeking to make it overtly fragrant. I find it touching that the fragrance surrounding the work can change the way we perceive it.” - Alexandra

Her research explores, among other themes, history and heritage, botany, the impermanence of time, and the fragility of life. Her work has been presented in museum institutions in Canada and France, before audiences totaling several hundred thousand visitors.

Since 2024, she has been certified in exhibition curation by the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York.
